A few kilometers from the historic city of Quebec, a little northeast of the majestic Montmorency Falls, are homes and businesses that still do not have access to high-speed Internet.

Last spring, Xplornet was selected by the Government of Quebec to build a fiber-to-the-home network that will connect over 23,000 homes and businesses in several regions of Quebec to high-speed Internet by the end of September 2022, including this region.

Recently, Charles Beaudet, Xplornet's Vice President of Operations for Quebec, had the pleasure of hosting Gilles Bélanger, Parliamentary Assistant to the Premier of Quebec for High-Speed Internet, for a field visit to the picturesque municipality of Château-Richer.

Mr. Bélanger was accompanied by local MNA Émilie Foster, who represents the people of Charlevoix - Côte-de-Beaupré at the Quebec National Assembly, as well as Stéphane Le Bouyonnec, Associate Secretary General of the Secretariat for High-Speed Internet, and Special Connectivity Projects of the Quebec government.

Everyone was able to see the enthusiasm of the Xplornet teams working in the field. "Their efficiency is such that the field survey was completed in August, ahead of schedule! During this phase, the teams combed the area to ensure that all homes and businesses, without exception, were surveyed," explains Charles Beaudet.

The next step, which is scheduled to begin by the end of the fall 2021, will be construction. The work includes the deployment and laying of more than 165 km of underground fiber optics, crisscrossing the nine municipalities of the RCM. For those who are wondering, Charles Beaudet also confirmed that "yes, work will continue even during the winter months! Xplornet is committed to delivering the project, as well as the six other projects underway in Quebec, by the end of September 2022 and we are making every effort to meet our objectives”.
