PEI Lawn Tractor Racing
The PEI Lawn Tractor Racing Club is a non-profit organization that has been providing locals with affordable racing fun since 2015. Xplornet has been a proud sponsor of the club since 2018.
The club hosts monthly races from May to October and at the end of each season, they donate all their proceeds to a local charity.
“Last year, we were able to give $1500 to the Children’s Wish Foundation,” said Nicole Wilson, Secretary and Treasurer of the PEI Lawn Racing Club.
This year, Nicole expects over 40 participants. On average, five to six participate at a time and racing classes range from adults to the youngest class of 6 to 10 year-olds.
“People really enjoy watching the smaller kids race against each other,” she said.
Some people even travel from New Brunswick to participate in the races. With the uncertainty of COVID-19, last year’s season was cut short, but Nicole is hopeful that things will be more normal this year.
“We’re hoping to get our season started and have a full season this year starting May 23rd. Everybody is excited to get going,” she said.
Nicole’s favourite thing about being part of the club is witnessing everyone having fun.
“It’s the energy that you get from watching people enjoy themselves,” she explained.
The PEI Lawn Tractor Racing Club has seen more new participants since the pandemic started.
“It’s the fact that we can do something outside in a large area where people can social distance and participants aren’t in close contact with each other. People really looked forward to the season last year and are looking forward to it again this year,” she said.
Nicole has been part of the Xplornet family for three years, and a member of the community in Morell, PEI for eleven.
“We’re on a quiet road surrounded by trees so it’s nice and quiet out here,” she said.
Having an Internet connection has been super important in terms of running the club.
“It’s definitely helped when accessing social media. That’s how we get all of the information to our racers and it’s where the majority of people look for information on racing event details. As the secretary and treasurer, it also comes in handy when I have to do the annual taxes and everything that comes along with that,” she explained.
She said that her Internet connection has also been essential for navigating the pandemic.
“When we were homeschooling, our son needed to connect with his teacher and then when staying home was encouraged the Internet connection came in handy for streaming on Netflix and social media to communicate with family that live farther away,” she said.
Nicole says she’s been satisfied with her Xplornet Internet connection.
“It’s definitely nice to have a consistent Internet connection. I recommend Xplornet to anybody that lives in a rural area.” she said.
Xplornet is now offering download speeds up to 50 Mbps, upload speeds up to 10 and truly unlimited data throughout most of their LTE network.
