New Year, New Towers [2022 Update]
In 2021, Xplore launched Canada’s first rural 5G standalone network – and we’re rolling out 5G to more communities over 2022.

The new year is here, and we are all setting intentions for 2022. The Xplornet team included! In 2022, we’re staying on track with our commitment to invest $500 million by 2025 to bring rural Canadians fast, reliable, and affordable Internet.
If 2020 taught us anything, it’s that being connected to what matters most is critical and should be possible for everyone, regardless of where they live.
The new year also has us reflecting on the last. In 2021, Xplornet had one of our biggest infrastructure development years yet:
- We built a total of 215 new towers to increase capacity and improve coverage across rural Canada.
- Upgraded 829 towers, many of them to next gen 5G fixed wireless technology to deliver even faster speeds.
- We acquired 3500 MHZ of spectrum, our largest spectrum investment to-date, which enabled us to unlock the potential of 5G.
- We launched Canada’s first rural 5G standalone network, with plans to expand to even more communities over the course of 2022.
- We started construction on fibre-to-the-home projects in Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Alberta, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island – with more to come in 2022.
