All about our most recent network improvements

If you’re a regular reader of our blog, you already know that Xplornet began in Woodstock, New Brunswick back in 2004. That’s right: this year is our 10 year anniversary!

Many things have changed since we first started helping Canadians access the Internet, and our customers continue to shift how they work, play and live thanks to their Xplornet service.

Let’s look back at 2013

Here’s a fact to help set the stage: In 2013, Xplornet customers used 80% more bandwidth than in 2012. That means more streaming movies, more video calls, more music downloads and more surfing than Xplornet has ever seen on the network before. Even with all of the work we did in 2012 (check out our 2012 “Building a better network” blog post for details), we never stopped improving the Xplornet network. Here are some highlights from 2013:

  • We added 2 brand new traffic routing locations, and we added new fibre lines in many of our existing locations, which increased our available bandwidth and improved our network’s reliability.
  • We increased our existing 4G satellite coverage in 5 provinces, and our available 4G satellite bandwidth more than doubled in many areas across the country.
  • We improved our 4G fixed-wireless network in over 35 locations, increasing our available bandwidth to customers served in the surrounding areas.
  • We increased download speeds for all of our Telesat Ka customers.

Have you been using more bandwidth lately? We also made a number of changes to our system and launched our Usage Tracker for many of our customers. If you’re on one of our 4G platforms, or our Expedience platform, you can login to you MyXplornet Portal and see your usage history any time.

We’re not slowing down in 2014

We’re very excited to share all of our 2014 plans with you, but some announcements will have to wait for just a little while longer. Still, we want you to know that we aren’t slowing down this year – for example, we have 30 new 4G fixed-wireless towers that we’re planning to build, and we’re planning new 4G overlays and general upgrades to more than double that many existing towers.

Our team will certainly be busy, but we always have time for our customers. Do you have a question about improvements done in your area, our latest plans or our 4G Internet service? Please leave us a comment, send us an email, or give us a call any time! We’re always here to help – every hour of every day, whenever you need us.
