With the threat of COVID-19 still looming, some parents and children will be celebrating Halloween from the comfort and safety of their own homes or limiting their festive activities to small groups of friends and family. Xplornet is here to help make Halloween 2020 in rural Canada as fun as usual, even if we can’t be out in the community bobbing for apples, going on haunted hayrides, and trick-or-treating like we usually do.

Here are 4 fun ways to have a Happy Halloween this year:

Halloween movie night

There’s no more classic Halloween night activity than enjoying a haunted movie marathon!
Not sure which movie to choose? IMDB has this handy list of family-friendly Halloween movies that you can sort by popularity or IMDB rating! If you’re looking for something a little scarier, here is IMDB’s list of the best Halloween movies of all time.

It only takes 3 Mbps to stream a standard definition movie and 5 Mbps to stream in HD so you can stay rest assured your Xplornet Internet connection will have you prepared to enjoy your fear-inducing flicks!

Worried about data? Xplornet now offers unlimited data on all plans. Say goodbye to the days of exceeding your data limit and paying pesky overage fees.

At Home Trick-or-treating

Going door to door may not be an option this year but that doesn’t mean you can’t trick-or-treat at all! Why not dress up in costumes, decorate the house, and set up a trick-or-treating adventure at home?

Each room in your home can have its own dedicated treat bowl behind it for your children to enjoy! Consider giving treats other than candy, like riddles, puzzles, or other activities! When you’re moving from room to room you can encourage your children to close their eyes. You can even have a new disguise in each room create the illusion of a different person answering the door every time.

Video Halloween Party

Invite your friends and family to join you on your favourite video conferencing service to share costumes and carve pumpkins together!

Make it even more interesting by voting on the best costume and the best jack-o-lantern!
At a loss for ideas? Try to recreate one of Cottage Life magazine’s pumpkins carved to look like wildlife and check out this list of cute Halloween costume ideas for kids from Canadian Living.

If you’re worried about running a video party, we’re happy to announce that Xplornet upload speeds are increasing to 2.5 on LTE 25 and 3 on LTE 50 Mbps to help make sure video conferencing goes off without a hitch.

Play “You’ve Been Boo’d”

Tomorrow, Xplornet will post a PDF download of fun Halloween activities, including a printable colouring page. After you and your family have completed the colouring page, write a message that says, “You’ve Been Boo’d” and drop it off at an unexpecting friend, family member or neighbour’s house with a little treat bag, that includes a blank version of the same Halloween colouring page. Knock on the door and when your friend comes outside, they will see they’ve been boo’d! Now it’s their turn to boo someone else!

With these 4 ideas, we hope you and your family have a Halloween to remember!

Xplornet would love to see how you make this Halloween extra fun! Don’t forget to submit photos of your hilarious Halloween fun to Xplornet’s Halloween Photo Contest!
