Based on a successful agreement between the government of New Brunswick and Xplornet, the province has ensured 100% of its residents and businesses will have access to affordable high-speed Internet, the first jurisdiction in all of North America to achieve such a goal. The faster speeds, ubiquitous accessibility, and lower monthly fees are thanks in part to the provincial government’s 13-million-dollar investment into fixed wireless and satellite network infrastructure. The project has a final completion date of July 2010 delivering Internet services to approximately 39,000 dwellings in New Brunswick that are mostly rural and underserved by providers. Completion of the broadband infrastructure will create an estimated 200 additional jobs in the province.
