Barrett Xplore Inc., awarded 2 additional administrative regions in Quebec

July 6, 2010

Montreal, July 6, 2010: Barrett Xplore Inc., provider of Xplornet Internet services, is pleased to announce that it was awarded funding to deliver broadband services to two additional administrative regions in the province of Quebec today. This announcement comes as part of the projects being subsidized by Broadband Canada: Connecting Rural Canadians. This program is a federal incentive program whose objective is to bring high-speed Internet to Canadians in unserved or underserved regions. The announcement, made by the Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Foreign Affairs, came shortly after a first series of wins announced back in May, which awarded the largest percentage to Barrett.

The new regions Barrett Xplore Inc. has been awarded in Quebec are:

  • Saguenay Lac-St-Jean
Lac-St-Jean-Est, Fjord-du-Saguenay, Maria-Chapdelaine, Domaine-du-Roy: shared service in areas not previously covered.
  • Mauricie
Les Chenaux, Maskinongé, Mékinac : shared service in areas not previously covered.
Lac-Édouard, La Bostonnais, laTuque, Shawinigan: service in areas not previously covered.

“This is huge news for us as the province of Quebec is a top priority for Barrett,” said Charles Beaudet, General Manager for Quebec and the Atlantic Provinces at Barrett Xplore Inc. “We are committed to executing on a solid plan for growth in Quebec. We will provide broadband access to 100% of unserved residents in these administrative regions, thanks to our hybrid model which includes Fixed Wireless and Satellite technology.”

The success in Quebec reflects the strength of the relationships that Barrett has built with local communities and government leaders, as well as meeting rigorous Broadband Canada criteria, understanding local markets, and the ability to execute on-time and on-budget.

This new win for Barrett represents over 14,000 households in these new regions. M. Beaudet adds that “in all, the announcement of these two administrative regions brings the total number of households awarded to Barrett Xplore Inc. to over 78,000. We made Quebec a priority, and our work is paying off”.
